Miners Mayhem

Miner’s Mayhem that is.

TriStyle Inc. is once again excited to bring the trail/obstacle run to Sudbury. This year the event will cover seven kilometres of trails, stairs, hills, walls, slides, crawls and of course, a whole lotta mud.

In 2012, its inaugural year, TriStyle introduced Sudbury to something a little different — not your average trail run and certainly nothing Sudbury had seen before. The New Sudbury fitness centre wanted to create something fun that was not too intimidating, yet still a challenge for those who had some running under their belts.

Mining seemed like an obvious theme around which to create the event. So, put together a sluiceway, a rescue climb, a mine shaft crawl, a little water, a lot of mud and backdrop that on Adanac Ski Hill and what do you get? Mayhem!

This year, on June 22, the Miner’s Mayhem will introduce a few new obstacles and increase the distance from four to seven kilometres. Everyone will receive a souvenir miner’s helmet (new colour) at the finish and draw prizes will be handed out at the after-party.

The organizers did a little research and found a great recipe for mud, and listened to the feedback from last year, taking the challenge up a notch. They discovered new ways to travel up, down and around Adanac Ski Hill and added chip timing for the new route.

There are different levels for the various participants as well. Runners will sign up as a Hard Core Miner, a Weekend Warrior or a Light Duty Miner. The Hard Core Miners are those who will take the challenges head on and at full speed. The Weekend Warriors are up for the task but choose to travel at average speeds, and the Light Duty Miners may require some walk breaks and/or modifications to the obstacles. The course was designed with the aim that everyone would finish. In 2012, all 270 participants finished the event upright and smiling.

Registration can be completed in person at TriStyle Inc., 428 Westmount Ave, or at The cost is $55 and includes a souvenir helmet, chip timing and access to the after-party. Capacity is limited so early registration is encouraged. For more information, visit or phone 705-562-8907.
