SRWC wrestlers medal at youth festival

by Community Submission | May 6, 2013

The youngest of the local wrestling crew recently received their introduction to provincial competition as the Sudbury Regional Wrestling Club travelled to Kingston, site of the 2013 Ontario Youth Wrestling Festival.

The northern Ontario youngsters featured a number of podium finishes, with Peter Guerra (first), Jasmine Tessier (second), Kyra Mallory (second), Matthew Guerra (second), Manon Paquette (third), Austin Mader (third) and Emma Larabie (third) showing the way.

Coach Dominic Larabie also received very solid showings from Eric Tessier (fourth) and Hunter Larabie (fifth), while one local entry was unable to find suitable competition within his age and weight bracket.

Wrestlers at the event ranged in age from nine to 14 years old, with the SRWC well-represented across the board. Though this will wrap-up the season for the youngest SRWC contingent, many of the elder athletes are still busy, preparing for summer meets.
