The Sudbury Minor Baseball Association is hosting an opening day celebration May 26.

Sudbury Minor Baseball Association will hold its Opening Day 2013 Event May 26 at the Terry Fox Sports Complex, starting at 6 p.m.

The ceremony will include on-field introductions of every team under the SMBA banner, followed by the first pitch of the 2013 season, thrown by lifetime board member Michael Blythe.

Stick around for the first game of the 2013 season featuring the 2012 Senior Division Champions, Laird Constructors, facing the Midget Rep Sudbury Shamrocks.

Laird Constructors features a number of players who have spent their lives at the ball parks of the Terry Fox Sports Complex. The team’s roster includes players who have played for Sudbury-based teams such as the N.E.L Champion Sudbury Reds, N.E.L Champion Sudbury Lakers and the OPP Strike Force travelling teams of the past.

The Midget Rep Sudbury Shamrocks boasts a squad featuring many returning players from last year’s Sudbury bantam travelling team that marched its way to an impressive second-place finish at the 2012 Ontario Baseball Association Championships. The Shamrocks also have several members of Team North on the 2013 squad.
