City’s top athletes celebrated

The 47th annual House of Kin Sports Celebrity Dinner was held June 10 at the Caruso Club. Eleven awards were distributed and the 2015 class was inducted into the Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame.

The winners:

Amateur Import Athlete of the Year
Danika Ranger – Algonquin High School, North Bay; Sudbury Lady Wolves goalie

High School Female Athlete of the Year
Karly Hellstrom – Lasalle Secondary School; soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field

High School Male Athlete of the Year
Ward Kyle – Lockerby Composite School; alpine skiing, cross-country running, hockey, badminton

Elite Athlete of the Year
Meagan Duhamel – figure skating

Bill Roman Administration Award
Annette Ranger – Gymzone Gymnastics

Joe Drago Coach of the Year
Giuseppe Politi – Cambrian College women’s soccer

Amateur Female Athlete of the Year
Karli Shell – Sudbury Lady Wolves

Amateur Male Athlete of the Year
Tyler Bertuzzi – OHL, Guelph Storm

Professional Athlete of the Year
Nick Foligno – NHL, Columbus Blue Jackets

C.W. Sheridan Family Team of the Year
Sudbury Lady Wolves – Esso Cup champions

Dr. Fred W. Sheridan High School Team of the Year
Tanner Horgan Rink – Lockerby Composite School, curling

Paul Brunelle – long-time high school coach and administrator
Larry Bedard – long-time minor hockey coach and manager

Cathy Inch – equestrian coach and competitor
Gary Ricker – former Sudbury Spartans and high school coach

Alex Fex – former Sudbury Hardrocks football player
Sophie Manarin (Posthumous) – junior skiing champion and 13-time medal winner
Dan McCourt – former NHL official and current NHL advisor

Voima Athletic Club – currently celebrating its 75th anniversary locally
